The Ultimate Used EV Checklist
Buying a used electric car requires a different checklist than buying a petrol car. Here is what you should inspect before making a purchase.
1. Battery Health Report
Do not buy the vehicle without reviewing the State of Health (SOH) of the battery. Anything above 85% is considered excellent, while below 70% may indicate the battery could need replacement soon.
2. Charging Port & Cables
Inspect the charging port for any damage or loose pins. Ensure the portable charging cable is included and functioning properly.
3. Tyres and Suspension
EVs are heavier due to their batteries, which means tyres and suspension components may wear out faster than in regular cars.
4. Software Updates
Check whether the car is running the latest software version. Updates can significantly improve range, performance, and features.
5. Underbody Inspection
Inspect the underbody for scrapes or damage to the battery pack casing. Deep dents can be a safety hazard and may void warranties.
